SIG Topics

Admissions: Testing, Diversity and Pre-commencement Family Engagement.

Join this Admissions Special Interest Group and share experiences on key issues facing Admissions teams.  We will look at how different schools engage with the following topics:

  • Pre and post enrolment testing: should you ‘trust’ reports, or do you need to conduct further testing, and what are the implications if you do.
  • Holistic admissions policies and what else to consider with grades: as schools want more than just “bums on seats” how do you to identify and allow for students with diverse abilities and talents?
  • Engaging with new families between enrolment and the first day: with some students finalised years before they commence at your school, how important is it to keep those students engaged and what methods can you use to do so?

We’d love to welcome you to this opportunity to meet with others in admissions teams and share and support one another.

People & Culture Stream: Privacy Issues Relevant to the Education Sector

Join this Special Interest Group session about the Federal Government’s work on proposed reforms to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Coupled with several high-profile data breaches, the spotlight is now very much on all Australian businesses to ensure they manage personal information in accordance with the Act and the Australian Privacy Principles.  This session will examine and discuss some of the possible reforms and how they will impact the education sector and People and Culture departments. Attendees will gain:

  • Better understanding of privacy responsibilities.
  • Insight into how reforms might affect schools.
  • Encouragement to consider why and how personal data is collected, stored, and disposed of.
