We used Consent2Go so it was very easy for us to update our policy and resend the link to parents/caregivers as this system is automated. Anyone who hadn’t responded was resent a follow-up every 5 days until an answer was given.
As far as encouragement goes, our policy notes that we often share images to celebrate a student’s achievements, which I think most parents would like for their child! Out of 750+ students, we only have 10 without permission, so I think our wording has been very encouraging – happy to share this with you in an email.

Hi Joel, if you’re specifically asking about the school’s official page – we have had students ask before and have said no. We have students without media permissions and don’t believe it’s appropriate for other students to have that kind of information about their peers. We also consider social media to be huge marketing tool and something we take seriously, so our preference is for our team to run this.
On the other hand, the last school I worked at had a specific music page for the school which was run by the student music captains similar to what Erin has described. It was fortunate that these were mature students and there were no issues however it’s not something I would consider doing again.
We recently purchased a Canon ESO 850D Single Kit which was just under $1400 and came with a 18-55mm lens. This is the latest entry-level model, whereas the 600 came out about 10 years ago, so it’s similar but further along technology wise.
I use our camera for exactly the same content (newsletter, socials, and yearbook) and it works perfectly – especially for a beginner like myself!
