Educate Plus is a forward-thinking, membership organisation committed to serving, supporting and assisting professionals in the pursuit of Educational Advancement in schools and colleges, universities, professional training institutes and various consultancies associated with the industry.

Established in 1987, Educate Plus has grown to employ eight dedicated staff members and represents a network of nearly 2,400 professionals across Australasia. Our members work in key professional areas, including Admissions, Alumni & Community Relations, Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, Leadership and People & Culture.

The Role

Expressions of interest are being sought for a suitably qualified and passionate governance professional with extensive IT strategy and cybersecurity experience. Other desirable skills include experience within the Education sector, Board and/or strategic governance experience and international business experience.

About the Position

We are seeking a new Board Director to work alongside our existing eight Directors. We are ideally seeking a candidate who will further strengthen and contribute actively to a full range of Board governance matters and will bring specific expertise in the areas of:

IT strategy and;
Cybersecurity.

Your Commitment

The Educate Plus Board meets five times throughout the year, three face to face meetings and two online meetings. Face to face Board meetings take place over a Friday afternoon and a full day on a Saturday with online meetings scheduled on a Friday afternoon. Other commitments include reading of Board Papers and contribution to projects and sub-committees between meetings, attendance at the annual AGM, biennial International Conference and other representation as required.

Board meetings are held in various locations across Australia, New Zealand or Asia. Directors are appointed for a term of three years and must stand for election at the next AGM due to be held in March 2025 in Adelaide.

Remuneration and reimbursement

This is a voluntary position and is not remunerated.
Directors’ costs associated with approved travel, accommodation and out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.

Key Selection Criteria

As a skills-based Board, Directors are recruited for the particular skills, experience and competencies they have developed from their personal and professional activities and which they will continue to develop whilst on the Board.

The Board is seeking to recruit a Director/s with:

Expertise in IT strategy and cybersecurity
A broad network and experience in driving the business through strategy
Skills in establishing and retaining relationships between stakeholder partnerships
An ability to be collaborative, make bold decisions and support the organisation to deepen its impact
A capacity to engage in aspirational strategic thinking and to understand issues at a detailed and ‘big-picture’ level; and
A passion for membership organisations and for purpose-led advocacy.

The requirements of the position include the following:

Relevant qualifications including contemporary governance education and best practice corporate principles (e.g. AICD accreditation or equivalent)
Experience in, or a sound understanding of, Board governance and risk functions
Demonstrated interest or passion for the education industry, with a commitment to advancing the Association’s mission and contributing meaningfully to its strategic direction;
An understanding of the membership Association sector and its challenges is desirable
